Your Questions About Haven, Answered

Questions About Nature-Based Therapy, Trauma, Grief & Anxiety
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are some of the things clients often want to know before getting started:
What is eco-therapy?
Eco-therapy, also called nature-based therapy, brings the cycles, seasons, and guidance of the natural world into the therapeutic process. At Haven, nature may be used through outdoor sessions, mindfulness, sensory experiences, imagery, or reflection. You do not need to consider yourself a “nature person” to benefit.
What can I work on in therapy?
Haven supports adults and older teens navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, creativity blocks, relationship changes, self-development, and questions about meaning or purpose.
You do not need to have a specific diagnosis or a perfectly defined goal. We can start with where you are.
Do you offer trauma therapy?
Yes, our therapists offer trauma-informed therapy that considers the mind, body, and spirit. Sessions may incorporate somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and other approaches depending on what feels most supportive for you.
Do you offer grief therapy?
Yes. Grief can come from many kinds of loss, including death, divorce, relationship changes, and major life transitions. Therapy can give you space to process what has changed while finding your way forward.
What is somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy helps you pay attention to what is happening in your body alongside what is happening in your thoughts and emotions. This can be helpful when you feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that are difficult to change through talking alone.
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?
IFS explores the different “parts” of ourselves and the roles they play. Instead of judging these parts, we approach them with curiosity and compassion. This can help you better understand yourself and create more internal balance.
Do I have to spend therapy sessions outside?
No, nature-based therapy can look different for everyone. Depending on your goals, we may incorporate nature, movement, mindfulness, imagery, creative practices, or outdoor sessions when appropriate.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. Online therapy is available for clients in North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
Where do you offer in-person therapy?
Haven offers in-person therapy in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Floyd, Virginia.
How much does therapy cost?
Sessions are $160 for 53 minutes. Haven is an out-of-network provider, but services are HSA eligible and superbills are available for clients who want to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
In addition, Haven offers a limited number of needs-based, sliding-scale sessions. Please reach out if you think you might be a good fit.
What if I have never been to therapy before?
You are so welcome here! You do not need to know what to say or where to begin. We will start with where you are, and build a structure for our sessions together based on your needs.
How do I get started?
The first step is a free consultation. We can talk about what you are looking for, answer your questions, and see if Haven feels like the right fit.
You don't have to have it all figured out before you begin.
